I have a problem with them. I don't like them. I usually just end up losing the money. If I miss the flop, I don't like to bet, except for the occasional situational bluff and semi-bluff.

If you raised pre-flop and hit big, you are often going to check till the turn anyway. So your opponent isn't necessarily going to "know" whether you missed or hit.

But some people seem to think a continuation bet is usually in order.

To me, making a continuation bet really depends on what level your playing at and how your opponents are playing as well as your position and the number of players in the pot. The best spot to make a continuation bet is usually with only one player behind you because two out of three times there not going to connect on the flop and the more players your up against your odds obviously get worse.

Basically, you'll be in spots where you'll need to make this play sometimes but it doesn't need to be used in every hand. Just pay attention to your opponents play, bet accordingly and don't invest to much into the pot "2/3 - 3/4 of the pot will usually do the trick".

I totally agree with Jason's first paragraph. But you must also control the pot size to you level of stack committment, you really dont want to build a big pot if you dont have the chip stack to protect the pot you have built.

66-75% is a good amount, particularly if you have pre flop raised (3-4bb's) with a mid pocket say 1010 jj. and you got insta called.

I would check to the turn if I saw a rainbow, 3 unders, etc. I wouldnt check if I saw something like AQ10, KJ10, 8910, 789, AKQ, AQJ etc. If you even suspect for a second he had 2 overs and you see a potential draws, you need to find out where you are without appearing weak. So I would continue. The only expection to this for me is where the player i am against has been playing weak and I have now put him on an over pair, I chase that free card and check.

A lot of players place a lot of faith in AK AQ, not many place the same faith in a small pair. which I will call pre flop for the right price. I see 3 overs and cant get a freebie, easy fold.
